The Identity and Passport Service has shortlisted companies for the two stages of the National Identity Scheme procurement programme
For the application and enrolment programme, the finalists are believed to be CSC, Fujitsu and IBM. The winner of this part of the contract will replace the passport application with a new identity card application scheme.
All three companies are part of the Strategic Supplier Group framework. The framework group is allowed to bid for various parts of the ID card scheme.

Apart from these two major stages, the UK Borders Agency is also in the middle of deciding on a final design for the new UK passports. As part of the process 3M, SP&SL, De La Rue, Gemalto and Thales have been shortlisted.
All of the contracts are expected to be awarded in 2009.
