| Lithuania May 2008 On our visit to a town called vasiginas.. a town built only 30 years ago especially to support the nuclear power plant in ingalina. During its peak this town had 30,000+ residents. Unfortunatley today the figures around 10,000 We were told by the local councillor that over 20,000 residents from this town alone are now working aboard as migrants. Very sad grey multi story blocks of flats, row after row, a sort of very sad ghost town...then something is not quite right.... couldn't figure what it was then it hit us. The gardens were perfectly kept, the grass was a perfectly attending to, their was absolutely no litter, not even a can or empty bottle of beer in sight. no mattresses or couches dumped just anywhere. One shop, one pub, a massive market square, that reminded you of the days when the Russians were around and the town was booming..
One of the saddest town I have ever seen in the modern world.... | |
